Gestalt Therapy

in Mullumbimby

A space to understand yourself, your relationships and the patterns that shape your life.

Gestalt therapy is a relational and experiential approach to counselling and psychotherapy that supports you to become more aware of yourself — your thoughts, feelings, body, relationships and the ways you respond to what is happening in your life.

Rather than focusing only on analysing the past, Gestalt therapy is interested in what is happening here and now, and how past experiences may still be showing up in the present.

At the Centre for Mind Body Wellness in Mullumbimby, we have a number of Gestalt therapists offering individual and relationship support, each bringing their own experience and way of working.

What can Gestalt therapy support?

People come to Gestalt therapy for many different reasons. You don’t need to be in crisis or have a diagnosis to benefit from therapy.

  • Anxiety, stress or feeling overwhelmed
  • Relationship or communication difficulties
  • Repeating patterns that feel difficult to change
  • Life transitions or periods of uncertainty
  • Grief, loss or separation
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or others
  • Neurodivergence and understanding your own needs
  • Trauma and experiences held in the body
  • Personal growth and greater self-awareness

Sometimes there isn’t one particular problem to solve. You may simply have a sense that something in your life wants attention, or that you’d like to understand yourself more deeply.

What is a Gestalt therapy session like?

Gestalt therapy is collaborative.

Rather than your therapist simply telling you what to do, sessions offer a space to slow down and become curious about what you’re experiencing.

Your therapist may invite you to notice your thoughts and emotions, what is happening in your body, how you relate to others, or patterns that emerge as you talk.

Over time, this greater awareness can help create more choice in how you respond to situations, relationships and challenges in your life.

The relationship between you and your therapist is an important part of the work, which is why finding someone you feel comfortable with matters.
